India ousted Sri Lanka, whereas Pakistan beat England in the semi-finals. South Africa was winner of the inaugural edition of the Blind Cricket World Cup in 1998, but due to lack of support from most of the national cricketing authorities the game declined.
Indian captain Shekar Naik lamented that despite the great odds and lack of support from BCCI, the team was elated at having won the Blind match. And even though India is the richest cricketing country and manages the ICC, the BCCI does not support blind cricketers.
Although PCB do not have much money, but still they are encouraging blind cricketers and are giving them a monthly salary. According to Naik, this kind of support can help them to do much better in cricket.
The 25 lakh contribution from the Indian Sports Ministry has made it possible for them to go to South Africa and win, and helped them to get better recognized.
According to Francois Neethling, the President of Blind Cricket South Africa the tournament was a great success and players learnt a lot from each other.
